I drink socially on the weekends. The med is Topamax. What are the risks with drinking with this med? If therean are any serious risks I won't drink, I drink at home with my friends, but that's it. If there's anyone that can answer this question, please help. Thx
I noticed when I got my new medication at CVS it said do not drink acohol.?
A pharmacist is the best person you can get the straight scoop from, but s/he will have to protect him/herself and tell you to follow the directions on the bottle! My friend's daughter took Topamax for a long time, and she avoided alcohol completely. Obviously, it will be safest for you to just not drink. Even if you're told, "It is safe 99.9% of the time," what if you're the .1 percent??? No one is going to be able to absolutely guarantee that you'll be safe. Ultimately, this is your choice and your risk. Good luck.
Reply:What it usually means when it says that, is that it could increase the side effects and can also increase the risk of a seizure....but honestly, unless you're drinking VERY high amounts of alcohol it will not do anything. I take various amounts of medications that said the same thing and I still drank and I was fine....
Reply:You can probably go online and find out. What I do is look at the side-affects of the drug and multiply that by ten and if that's something that I'm willing to deal with then i'll drink
Reply:It can be deadly anytime you drink with medication . Some go in to comas they do not ever come out of .
