Can tests from amniocenteisis/cvs detect the sex of the baby?

yes but dont' do it. i had a stillborn at 21 weeks due to an amnio.

Can tests from amniocenteisis/cvs detect the sex of the baby?
If they want to, they can genetically test the baby to see if it's XX (female) or XY (male). I don't think they normally do this unless you have a specific medical reason why you need to know, however, but if you really want to know it doesn't hurt to ask...
Reply:yes.
Reply:Yes, amnios are supposed to be very clear. I wouldn't have chosen to have one if it weren't for our baby having a congenital heart defect. (It was rather painful, and the baby was waving his hand at us in the ultrasound, and his hand came pretty close to the needle!) Everything seems to be fine chromosonally, and he's definitely a boy.
Reply:Yes, it can.

The test is very risky though. If it's necessary and you must have it, then finding out the sex can be an added bonus.
Reply:Yes. But they only do those tests for high risk moms/pregnancies.

Most other women can find out at the 20week ultrasound.
Reply:Yes it can. It also detects a multitude of things. Like it the baby may have a debilitating disease, such as down sydrome. It will also give you the dna of a baby so you will know its parents and such.
Reply:Yes it can tell.
Reply:yes!
Reply:Yeah it can but dont put that risk on yourself just to find the sex of your baby. Having this test holds a chance of miscarriage..
Reply:Absolutley, it is the ONLY definitive test for the sex of your baby. Ultrasound can be wrong, amnio absolutley cannot- they check the chromosomes of your baby to determine sex and abnormalities. I've had amnio in this preg and last, however I didn't want to know the sex of my babies!!
