What kind of prenatal vitamins should I buy and how much do they cost? Would you use CVS or store brand?

Does anyone know how much the vitamins cost at Kaiser Permanente?

What kind of prenatal vitamins should I buy and how much do they cost? Would you use CVS or store brand?
I've been using the store brand the entire pregnancy. Just compare the vitamin content between the name brand and the generic. For the most part they are the same. I've always paid about $11 for around 100 vitamins. Good Luck!
Reply:Medcal covers them in California. I actually got three bottles of 100 caps just yesterday. My doctor said it doesn't really matter the brand of the pills just as long as they're high in Folic acid and calicum.
Reply:Ask your OB for some samples. Most of them get lots of samples from pharmaceutical reps. I'm 33 weeks and haven't bought any yet. I also have enough to last through the rest of my pregnancy.

My pharmacist told me that the only difference between the Rx and OTC prenatal vitamins is that the Rx have 600 mgs. more folic acid, which is very important in early fetal development. Depending on what type of insurance coverage you have, the OTC are often cheaper because you can buy more than 30 at a time. If you use an OTC vitamin, ask the pharmacist about supplementing with folic acid. Or you can simply eat foods that are rich in folic acid, such as oatmeal, or breakfast cereals, spinach, broccoli and OJ. You can search for more options on the web.
Reply:folic acid is one of the most important things you should be taking while pregnant and store brand is just as good as brand name but your doctor should be able to write you a prescription for prenatal vitamins.
Reply:i currently use one source from walmart, they are like 4.95 a bottle. i love them!
Reply:The prenatals my doctor prescribed for me made me VERY sick. With his approval, I switched to Nutrilite brand daily vitamins which I tolerate very well (I have a sensitive tummy). There are so many vitamin companies out there, and it's hard to know which ones are good ones, which are balanced, and which are digestible. If you are a researcher, you'll find that Nutrilite is the best. All organically grown plants in multiple locations in the world, HIGHLY digestible, etc.

For a 3 month supply, it's about $30. You can get them at http://www.mconstable.qhealthbeauty.com

Congratulations on your baby! I have one more week of my Two Week Wait before I find out if this will be baby #2!
Reply:No I don't know how much those cost. Make sure you are buying something that doesn't have a lot of additives and preservetives. Get something pure. I use Opti Natal by the eclectic institute. They are between $20-$30 for a months supply. I love them. You can feel such a difference between cheap vitamins and good ones. These ones I swear by!
Reply:I use the CVS brand, my doctor suggested to use the store name, that was what she used and she said it is just as good. CVS also has a lot of sales for buy one get one free.
Reply:folic acid is the most important vitamin for pregnant woman
Reply:go to costco... or some place like that.. they have a lot of vitamins there. the two main you need to consider are folic acid and calcium... but not really if you drink milk (2% or nonfat).

They should be about 5 to 7 bucks a bottle. Buy folic acid ones that have 400mcg or 800mcg in each tablet.

And, if you buy the 400mcg ones, just take two.

Also, if you have insurance, thatll cover ones from a pharmacy, if not, store brand or nonprenatal kinds are just fine.

Good thing youre taking care of yourself now and being cautious.

=)
Reply:Your obgyn should automatically give u a prescription for your prenatal vitamins. I was on goverment funding so the vitamins were paid with my medicaid coverage. With insurance coverage from a friends feedback the vitamins were $6.00. Now depending what state your in the price might be different.
