What does CVS stand for in CVS Drug Stores?

Is it an abrrevaition, what are its origins and was it ever a longer name that was shortened. We have a bet on its origins. I guess it was three pharmacists with last names starting with C V S


that pooled togetter and started the chain?

What does CVS stand for in CVS Drug Stores?
The name once stood for Consumer Value Stores; though Tom Ryan, CVS's CEO, has said he now considers it to stand for "Customer, Value, and Service".
Reply:Consumer Value Stores Corporation; never a longer name. Founded in 1963 in MA (incorporated in DE, HQ'd in RI). Started in health and beauty products and grew primarily through a number of acquisitions. It didn't begin pharma ops until '67.
